Ellipses

An ellipsis (...) is a set of three dots used in writing to show:

  1. A pause for suspense – It makes the reader wait, creating tension.
    • She turned the handle slowly... but the door wouldn’t budge.
  2. Something is missing – It shows that part of a sentence or quote has been left out.
    • "To be or not to be... that is the question." (Part of the original quote is skipped.)
  3. A trailing off thought – It shows someone hesitating or not finishing their sentence.
    • "I could have sworn I saw something outside..."

Basically, an ellipsis helps make writing more dramatic, mysterious, or natural, just like a pause in real speech!
